Former Ukhozi FM radio presenter Mandla Malakoane hosted Woza Nabangani Bakho ,the afternoon drive on Ukhozi FM on Friday.This was to celebrate the 62 years birthday for the number one radio station in the country.

 

Malakoane says He first joined the radio station on Tuesday the 02nd of March in 1993.Speaking to Tshata Ngobe and Selby Mkhize who joined him on the show he said"When I was still studying at Durban University I had a dream to become a radio presenter.In those days you were supposed to do teaching qualifications in order to qualify for the radio job.

 

"I did Communication Skills ,while I was still at school ,I remembered very well the date was the 20th of October in 1992.We visited Radio Zulu studios in Durban on the late Kansas City show ,we were eight.We were given the opportunity to do shoutouts on air.

 

"I remember it was five minutes before news when I do my link on air ,the late Kansas City said to me after ,we want you on radio.He contacted Mr Mbatha and told him about me.I was called to do auditions ,I was given the script to test whether I can read a script.

 

"I did my audition in front of the late Joshua Mlaba then Kansas City told them to contact me.I was given Midnight to 5am show as my first on air show.I was surprised with the message Kansas gave me ,he said to me I don't want you to be known ,but I want you to be famous".

 

Mandla Malakoane has done number of shows before he left the station in 1999 to join Inkatha Freedom Party ( IFP) as a member of parliament.He hosted Ukhozi FM Top 20 , Afternoon Drive and the cross over shows on the 31st of December.
